The Town of Harrison

The Town of Harrison has approximately 28,000 residents and is comprised of the Town and Village of Harrison. Purchase, a hamlet in the northeastern portion of the Town, is home to S.U.N.Y. of New York at Purchase and Manhattanville College. There are numerous major roadways which intersect with the Town of Harrison, including I-95, I-287, the Hutchinson River Parkway, I-684 and local roadways such as Mamaroneck Avenue, Halstead Avenue and Purchase Street.

Many of our Town of Harrison clients are charged with speeding. Conviction of, or a plea of guilty to, two speeding tickets in an eighteen month period for traveling 21-30 miles an hour over the posted speed limit, can lead to a suspension of your driver’s license, as you would then have 12 points—11 points results in a suspension. Further, if you receive six points on your license in 18 months, this results in a “Driver’s Responsibility Assessment“, which is a fine imposed by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The fine is $300.00, which can be paid in three annual installments of $100.00 or all at one time. Driver’s Responsibility Assessments are also issued in all DWI cases in the amount of $750.00, which can be paid in three annual installments of $250.00 or in one payment.

We have successfully represented clients in the Harrison Town Court in a variety of criminal cases and traffic infractions. In DWI cases, we have obtained several favorable resolutions of cases, hardship privileges, conditional licenses, and conditional discharges (rather than the onerous sentence of probation) in numerous cases. The Harrison Town Court has a wide jurisdiction of traffic infractions, parking tickets, civil cases, and criminal cases (Not felonies, which are under the jurisdiction of the Westchester County Court), as well as small claims cases.

SCHEDULE FOR THE HARRISON TOWN COURT

Every Tuesday, Court commences at 9:00 AM for traffic and criminal matters, which are conducted simultaneously. The ADA handles the criminal calendar and the town prosecutor, in conjunction with town and county police officers, attempts to resolve the traffic infractions. One Wednesday a month beginning at 7:00 PM is reserved for civil cases and small claims matters. The first two Thursdays, and occasionally a third Thursday, at 9:00 AM, is for town ordinance violations and landlord tenant matters. The Court session is from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, except during the summer months, when the session is over at 3:00 PM.

DIRECTIONS TO THE HARRISON TOWN COURT

The Harrison Town Court is easily accessible by either I-95 or the Hutchinson River Parkway. If coming from the South, take the Hutchinson River Parkway north and exit at Exit 23 South, Mamaroneck Avenue. Turn right on Mamaroneck Avenue, and immediately left onto Union Avenue, turn right on Harrison Avenue, and then left on Heineman Avenue, and the Court will be on the right at the beginning of the street near the train station entrance.

Parking For the Harrison Town Court

Parking is very difficult for the Harrison Town Court. Many of the local streets do not permit parking, and there is limited parking in front of the Court. There are many roadblocks and one way streets as well, and local residents will call the police if they suspect that someone is parking on their street and walking to the Courthouse. The best advice for parking at the Harrison Town Court is to get there very early.
